Over the course of this three-day field program, participants will become familiar with the geological setting and characteristics of sediment-hosted copper systems in the Chu-Sarysu Basin, with a focus on the Zhezkazgan ore district.

By the end of the course, participants will be able to:
• Study the stratigraphy of Devonian-Carboniferous and Permian deposits
• Gain familiarity with the geology of the region's largest copper deposits
• Examine rock samples formed under redox (oxidation-reduction) conditions
• Consider the mechanisms of localization and formation of sediment-hosted copper mineralization
• Study the key indicators and criteria for predicting Sediment-Hosted Copper Systems, using deposits of the Zhezkazgan region as examples

The Chu-Sarysu Basin is one of the world's largest sediment-hosted copper basins. In terms of scale, it ranks third among comparable provinces worldwide, surpassed only by the largest copper basins of Africa and Europe.

The Chu-Sarysu Basin's identified total copper resources are estimated at approximately 27 million tonnes, with Zhezkazgan and Zhaman-Aibat as the largest deposits.
